Milford Sound is known for being super moody and dramatic. Gigantic rugged mountains and 100’s of free flowing waterfalls and mist as you drive in down past the Homer tunnel.
When I picked up Matt and Alice in Te Anau the weather forecast was for a bright clear sunny day. I have NEVER seen Milford not in a blanket of cloud, so I was excited to see Mitre Peak exposed!
We stopped off at the golden fields with snowy mountains to grab a few shots on the drive in. Alice was rocking her hiking boots (love this tread) and had a homemade dried bouquet of flowers with lavender and wheat.
We ran around and enjoyed the sun before heading into Milford.
During the Spring when the snow is melting there are no stopping signs all along the road. This is because as the snow melts it can create avalanches. So, we had to drive in from the Homer Tunnel without stopping.
The boat to the Bowen Falls was not running that day which was a bummer – so we headed to the waterfront and got photos with the falls in behind. They still look incredible and dramatic!
It was such a nice surprise to have sunny blue skies.
We had such a fun afternoon soaking up the sun, eating chocolate and frolicking around in the beauty of this amazing place.
