What to Wear Guide
Ok – I know it can be super daunting trying to work out what to wear for a photo shoot, so I have put together some guidelines to help you with outfit choices.
Ultimately, I want you to feel totally comfortable and at ease in what you are wearing.
The main goal here is to make sure your outfit compliments where we are shooting so I can focus on your beautiful faces and the connection between each other, rather than loud and distracting clothing.
I personally know nothing about fashion (I live in ripped jeans and oversized t shirts), but this is just what I have picked up from past shoots.
These are only guidelines, not rules! – I don’t care if you turn up in a bed sheet if that is what makes you feel comfortable :)

IF YOU ARE FEELING A LITTLE STUCK...

First of all, I recommend bringing a few options to pick from. That way I can help choose colours and clothing that will look great in the environment we are shooting, and we can mix it up if we are using multiple locations. Just make sure you bring clothes that make you feel like million bucks!
Don’t bring your entire wardrobe! Most people bring between 3-4 pants and 3-4 tops as options and maybe a couple of dresses, jackets, accessories etc...
Depending on where we are shooting you might have to get changed in the back of the car or on location. If you don’t feel comfortable doing this then just come wearing the one outfit!
MAKE SURE IT MAKES SENSE

Think about the locations and what conditions we are shooting in. If we are hiking then a pair of comfortable boots, if at the beach then it would make sense to be barefoot. Heels can be fabulous, only if you are great at walking in them!
If it is somewhere cold, bring warm jerseys and coats. Somewhere hot, light and breathable clothing. I don’t want you to be freezing cold or sweating through thick layers.
MOVEMENT IS BEAUTIFUL

If you have items that are floaty, dangle or can catch the wind this will look amazing in your shoot. It creates movement which can bring a whole new life to your images.
COLOURS

In regard to colours, I suggest choosing neutral and more earthy tones.
This just means if you want to wear green go for a more forest green, navy, ivory, mustard, burnt oranges etc.
Try to stay away from bright pinks, bright orange and bright reds as these can cause a strong colour cast against skin if you are fair.
PATTERNS

Subtle

Too busy
Try to avoid large and chunky patterns. These are super distracting!
The one exception is flannel which can be a great contrast on jeans.
Opt for small and subtle patterned clothing. I try to keep only one patterned item at a time because as you can probably guess – too many and it becomes overwhelmingly busy and distracting.

Flannel
ACCESSORIES
I love hats, accessories, necklaces etc but just try not to have chunky watches (Apple & fit watches especially) as they can distract from close up shots of your gorgeous faces.

HAIR & MAKE - UP

Lots of people ask if they should get hair and make up done. I think just roll with whatever makes you feel the most comfortable and the most like yourself!
If you rarely wear make - up and just scrunch your hair up into a bun then rock that look!
If you do want to get your hair and make - up done, then definitely do. If you are getting it done, then I suggest being finished an hour before your shoot, so you have time to get to the location and not be in a rush.
PROPS

When I think of props, I usually think of those super cheesy Pinterest pictures with random wooden words and chalkboards which make me cringe a little.
But props don’t have to be cheesy!
We can totally incorporate your motorbike, truck, blankets, pizza, beer, dogs etc into the shoot in a non-cheesy way. Let me know if there is anything in particular you would like to bring along!

If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to ask and if you are still unsure about what to wear then let me know and we can create a little Pinterest board with ideas.
Just be comfortable, rock your own unique style and be yourself – I promise your pics will be amazing :)
