Top 10 Helicopter Locations in Southland/Otago

One of the things we are very blessed with in New Zealand is our endless choice of stunning locations to fly to on your wedding day! Here are a list of some of my absolute favourite locations, flying from either Queenstown, Wanaka or Te Anau.

1 - Lake Erskine

This alpine lake sits high in the mountains with a big waterfall running off the side. In the winter the area is covered in snow, often giving those mirror like reflections. Summer it dries off to rocky areas with dried tussock and crystal clear turquoise waters.

Quickest to fly to from Te Anau, but you can also fly from Queenstown or Wanaka.

2. Coromandel Peak

This is probably one of the most Insta famous views in New Zealand, and for good reason. With magnificent scenery and Lake Wanaka stretching out around you, it really is paradise.

When you book a flight here, you get a landing slot, meaning that no other helicopters can land while you are there.

Flight time from Wanaka - 5 mins. You can also fly here from Queenstown.

3. Doubtful Sound

Deep into Fiordland is the majestic Doubtful Sound! The flight in here is like flying in to Jurassic Park and an experience in itself. Sometimes you will find some kea friends hanging out up here too!

4. Earnslaw Burn

This has to be one of the most jaw dropping locations in Glenorchy. A massive valley surrounded by glaciers which cause these massive waterfalls to trickle and flood down to the rivers below.

Flight time from Queenstown - 20 mins

5. Cecil Peak

Located only a 5 minute flight from Queenstown this is a perfect location to whip away to if you don't want to spend too much time away from guests, or if you are a nervous flyer!

The ledge is a big flat area of rocks that have a sharp drop off to the lake below. If you are afraid of height, this is also a good spot to go for those epic photos, but you don't have to stand near the edge to get them.

6. The Remarkables

Another spot that is very close to Queenstown airport for a short 5 minute flight. With views out over Lake Wakatipu one direction and jagged mountains the other.

7. Lower Humboldts

This mountain range looks over the winding rivers leading in to Glenorchy. With lake views and golden tussocks, this spot is stunning for sunset.

Fly here from Queenstown.

8. Fog Peak

Prepare to be a little cold, Fog Peak often has snow! With amazing views into the valley below. Great to add on to a double landing with Coromandel Peak. Fly here from Wanaka.

9. Twin Peaks

This is the view from the other side of the lake to Coromandel Peak. Epic 360 degree views with lake on one side and a valley on the other. One of the most under rated spots in Wanaka!

Fly here form Wanaka.

10. Campbell's Kingdom

If lush greens and waterfalls are more your vibe, check out this hidden little spot in Fiordland.

Fly here from Te Anau.
